LCH Year Long Intern Program!

What We Are About!

Christ’s love compels us to create a culture of Diversity, Equity and Belonging at Lake Champion, so that we reflect the full breadth of the Kingdom of God and those we serve. A culture of belonging is a core value to ensure that Lake Champion is a place where every person is welcomed, known, heard, respected and celebrated for the ways they uniquely reflect the image of God. This will be achieved through a posture of listening, learning, relationship, personal sacrifice and action.

"Therefore, I urge you, brothers, in view of God's mercy, to offer your bodies as living sacrifices, holy and pleasing to God - this is your spiritual act of worship. Do not conform any longer to the pattern of this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind. Then you will be able to test and approve what God's will is - his good, pleasing, and perfect will." -Romans 12:1-2

  • Live in view of God’s mercy - We’re already loved, we have nothing to earn or prove, and we’ll extend that mercy to others.
  • Offer our bodies as living sacrifices - We will be the first to be last and we will work hard.
  • Holy & pleasing to God - We will live above reproach.
  • Do not conform to the pattern of this world - We will live differently (set apart).
  • Be transformed by the renewing of our minds - We will spend time each day in the Word and in prayer.

QUALIFICATIONS

Lake Champion’s Year-Long Intern program is a challenging and rewarding year. The program is a life-changing experience that is designed for those who are deeply committed to Christ and have a desire to join the Lake Champion Staff in providing an environment where volunteers and kids can experience Christ.

Requirements:

  • A desire to serve others and grow in Christ-likeness as well as a willingness to work hard in multiple camp departments and an interest in Young Life Camping.
  • Currently active in Young Life or another Christian ministry.
  • At least 1 year out of high school or are at least 19 years of age.
  • Willingness to raise part of your salary.
  • Ability to stay for the entirety of the year (Middle of August 2024 through the end of August 2025)

Our Goal for the year is that Year-Long Interns would grow in an intimate abiding relationship with Jesus Christ, in their leadership and professional skills, and grow in their understanding and participation in Christ-centered community. As a camp staff we will commit to helping you achieve this in a few different ways.

FAITH

The most important aspect of the internship is how our year long’s faith will be challenged, stretched, and strengthened .This program will focus on providing interns with the tools for fostering their relationship with Christ primarily through learning to practice the disciplines that Jesus modeled.

  • Weekly Intern Fellowship Time: Year-Longs and their Intern Coordinators will gather once a week to share a meal and engage in teaching, conversation, and other spiritual disciplines together.

  • Mentorship Opportunity: Each of our year-longs will be encouraged to find a mentor to walk alongside them for their year at camp.

  • Fundraising: Year-Longs are asked to raise part of their salary for the year in order to grow in their relationship with the Lord and their reliance on the Lord (more details in fundraising section).

LEADERSHIP

Year Longs will be exposed to the practical sides of the various departments at Lake Champion. During each rotation our year longs will be challenged in their flexibility, adaptability, humility, and work ethic. We hope that they leave their year with tangible professional skills that will serve them in their future careers.

  • Job Rotations: Interns will experience three different job rotations within a different department on camp (Food Service, Sites & Facilities, Guest Services, Retail, Housekeeping, and Administration)
  • Housekeeping Days: All interns will participate in Turnover days each week. On these days interns will work with our HK team and help clean camp to prepare for the next group of guests.

COMMUNITY

Lake Champion interns will live in community on multiple levels. They will be housed with other interns of the same gender, and live in close quarters with all interns. This is truly a unique opportunity and season of life to spend significant time living, working, and playing together. The intern community is a vital part of the bigger camp community. Together we are continually learning how to serve Christ better and how to love our neighbor as ourselves. Much of our interns personal growth will be dependent upon their participation in community growth. A community such as this comes with both immense blessings and also daily challenges. This will require keeping short accounts, speaking truth in love and resolving conflict in a Godly manner.

I

Program Specifics

  • TIMELINE: We will ask our interns to arrive sometime in the middle of August 2024 and depart at the end of August 2025. More specific dates will be communicated during the application process

  • SALARY & BENEFITS: Interns are salaried and will be paid approximately $2,599 per month prior to taxes and rent deductions. Each month interns will have $225 deducted from each paycheck prior to taxes for rent. Unless you waive coverage, you will receive full Young Life health benefits (medical, dental, vision).

  • HOUSING: Housing is provided for all interns. Interns will live in the same house with separate floors by gender and a common living room and kitchen. These rooms are outfitted with beds and some clothing storage. Each floor has its own dorm-style bathroom and laundry facility.

  • MEALS: Meals will be provided by our Food Service Department anytime there is a group in camp. During the summer season, this will typically cover 3 meals per day. During the school season, meals are usually served only on weekends. All other meals will be your own responsibility to purchase and prepare.

  • WORK: All interns will work in housekeeping for turnover days (typically 1 day per week) and may work in any department based on guest needs, with possible weekend work days. While rotations will be department-focused, all of these roles will require a great deal of flexibility. You will be asked to serve wherever is needed, but will have the chance to develop deeper-level skills in the departments you are assigned to. All interns will have 2 days off per week during the school season and due to the busy nature of summer season all interns will have one day off per week.

Fundraising

Interns will have the privilege of fundraising part of their salary which will cover a portion of the total intern programs benefits and compensation package. This money will be for the ministry of Young Life.

The reasons for the fundraising requirement are two-fold: 1) most Young Life staff raise money and this is an opportunity to practice this skill common to ministry work; and, 2) the money make this program possible. Lake Champion will provide support materials and strategies to help in the fundraising process.

We will provide you with a fundraising coach that will help you create a fundraising plan/will walk alongside you during the process. We will start the fundraising process in August when our year long interns arrive to camp. The total amount to be fundraised will be communicated during the hiring process.
